In what feels like a past life, I focused a high percentage of my online efforts on bad driving and horrific traffic. It was a big part of my Evil MoPac origin story, and sprung from my myriad frustrations with shitty Austin gridlock.

So, from time to time, I like to dip back into that well. Because dealing with bad drivers is a universal club that we’re all dues paying members of whether we like it or not.

With that all said, here are six driving behaviors that I simply won’t abide (nor should you). No, these aren’t even close to the worst things on the road, but they’re very common and uniquely annoying.

Not Waving After You’re Allowed to Merge

This one is admittedly more frivolous an entry than the rest and is rooted in custom and good manners rather than safety or efficiency. But, when someone allows you room to merge, whatever the situation, you should toss them a polite wave. That’s it. The end. We’re not going to argue about this one, even if you think letting you in was compulsory. It’s simply a small way to keep things civil on the roadways, so it should be reflexive for all of us.
