Next stop on my list of favorite Substacks is the thinky but still down to Earth The Experiment by author, media guy, and general bon vivant Jason Stanford, late of Austin and now plying his wares up in The Metroplex working for Dallas ISD.
Although he’s worn many hats over the years (inexplicably including a Baltimore Orioles one), many of y’all may best know him as a co-author of Forget The Alamo: The Rise And Fall of an American Myth, which should be required reading for every high school kid in Texas but has about the same chance of being on a Lake Travis ISD reading list as my handler does winning Mr. Universe.
As formidable a hyphenate as Stanford is, this piece is about his Substack, which takes on the issues of the day with wit and a steady hand, while also serving as a bit of an influencer newsletter with recommendations of various types, including movies, books, and other links of interest.
A cynical person might say that I’m picking this one because of a very well-written (and 100% accurate) piece on yours truly back in 2023 or Stanford appearing on my Stuck With Evil MoPac podcast later that same year.
But, ego aside, I can assure you that Stanford’s Substack is a great one and I’m willing to put my rep behind it. Enjoy!
